Dear Friends,
The Martin Z. Margulies Foundation has donated a monumental sculpture by Anselm Kiefer, Die Erdzeitalter (Ages of the World), to the Israel Museum, Jerusalem. This sculpture, previously installed in the Margulies Collection at the Warehouse, is on view in Jerusalem as December 18, 2025.
Our ongoing exhibition of works by Anselm Kiefer at the Warehouse has been, and continues to be, an anchor of our permanent programming. Originally created for a retrospective of Kiefer’s work at the Royal Academy, London, the 17-foot-tall sculpture Die Erdzeitalter was acquired by Martin Margulies in 2014 and housed in a room within the Warehouse.
A German painter and sculptor with a longstanding relationship with the Israel Museum, Anselm Kiefer is known for an oeuvre that confronts the immensity of history, collective memory, and the impacts of war. This timely gift, made in coordination with the American Friends of the Israel Museum, honors the institution’s 60th anniversary and builds on The Martin Z. Margulies Foundation’s 40-year legacy of giving.
We hope you will join us in celebrating its acquisition to the exceptional collection of the Israel Museum.
Sincerely,
Katherine Hinds, Curator
