The Margulies Collection at the Warehouse is celebrating its 20-year anniversary with a blockbuster exhibition juxtaposing works by Post-War masters like Willem de Kooning and Michelangelo Pistoletto with the 21st century’s rising stars such as Nathalie Djurberg and Barry McGee. One of many highlights is Isamu Noguchi’s monumental Judith (Tent of Holofernes), 1978. “This sculpture by Isamu Noguchi is a part of a stage set he designed in 1950 for the legendary American modern dancer and choreographer Martha Graham,” says Martin Z. Margulies. “We were fortunate to obtain it from the collection of the fashion designer Halston.” The Warehouse is also marking the occasion with the publication of a two-volume set of books showcasing the work of artists who have shaped the collection over the last two decades, including photography, video, sculpture and installations from the Warehouse and Margulies’ private home. Since its inauguration in 1999, the Warehouse has produced hundreds of programs for the community in support of arts education. “Our original mission was to bring art education to students and the Miami community by presenting both master works of art and significant works by younger artists,” Margulies continues. “We now have an internationally recognized facility.”
